Prom dress designers design dresses that flatter different body types and figures. With a little bit of thought and research, you can choose the best type of dress to fit your particular body type.

This will ensure you not only look, but also feel like a princess on prom night.

If you are going for curves, and you want a bit more volume, you should either get a sheath type dress or an A line.

These dresses give the appearance of more curves, but, at the same time the show off your slender figure.

If you are going for curves, you should skip strapless dresses because they make your shoulders look even skinnier than before.

If you want to take the attention away from your hips, wear a dress that is full skirted or like a ball gown. These dresses make your hips look slimmer.

Stay away from dresses that have a v-neckline because these dresses bring attention to your hips, and can make your hips seem wider.

If you want to take away the appearance of bust, then make sure you stay away from v-neck dresses.

You should look for a dress that has a scoop neckline because these type of dress flatter your upper body (shoulders), but minimize bust lines.

Make sure you stay away from busy fabrics with many patterns because these fabrics make chests look bigger. Fuzzy fabrics can also have this effect, such as velvet and taffeta.

If you need to hide your backside, avoid sticky or clingy fabric as these accentuate your backside, and rather go for a full-skirted approach because these dresses hide your backside and your hips.

Pear shaped?

If you don’t want to show off a pear-shaped body, you should wear a ball gown because, with fitted bodices, these dresses are perfect for hiding this type of body.

If you want to take attention away from your arms, find a dress with a sweetheart neckline, because these dresses draw peoples eyes towards the bust and away from your arms.

Try to stay away from strapless or spaghetti strap dresses ( for obvious reasons).

If you do have to, find a scarf or raft that goes with the dress to take attention off your arms.

If you want to flatten your stomach, try to go for an empire waist dress, this type of dress will hide your stomach and just make you look flatter in general.

If you are planning on looking taller, try to stand clear of long ball gowns that reach for the floor and instead go for an a-line, silhouette or sheath styled dress, these dresses help draw peoples eyes downwards. Remember, less is more.

Whatever body shape you are sporting you will be able to find the perfect dress if you keep in mind the above tips.

Do you have a favorite style of dress for your body shape?
