Dressing your Date for Prom. Black or Designer Socks?

This post may have affiliate links. Please see my disclosure.

It might seem like a lesser detail but if you don’t cover off every aspect of prom preparation you risk having a last minute disaster.

No one wants their date for Prom to be wearing a pair of white sports socks.

Going commando with the socks is not an option either. No matter what he says don’t let him do that.

Reasons to wear black socks

Sometimes keeping it simple and classic is the way to go. Especially on such an important night.

Rather than risking using socks that are too colorful you can get your date to play it safe with a simple pair of black socks.

Why Designer socks could be the way to go

Getting a color match right with your dates tuxedo and socks can mean the icing on the cake when it comes to a sharp look. It is best to have as much input as you can as some guys just don’t get it when it comes to matching clothes.

Some rules of thumb:

  • When in Doubt, Keep it Simple – it is best to go for more traditional patterns, especially if your date is not generally a flamboyant dresser.
  • Blend with the Rest of the Tuxedo – The socks don’t have to be exactly the same color as the rest of the outfit, but you don’t want them clashing. So make sure they fit well into the overall look.
  • Contrast – try not to make drastic changes that will be noticeable when the eye runs over the outfit.

Try to buy socks that are made out of natural fibers. The reason being synthetic fabrics don’t allow your skin to breathe properly.

You don’t want your date having hot and sweaty feet on prom night.
