Online shopping is a real joy for many girls out there. When it comes to buying a prom dress online things aren’t always as promising as they appear to be.

There are stories and pics from girls all over the net that purchased their prom dress online and it turn out to be a total disaster.

Girls that had an unpleasant experience often complain about the poor quality of fabrics. Also that the dress that turns up on their doorstep wasn’t the same as was shown in the pictures.

Others complain that their dress didn’t arrive on time – or at all.

All of the above shows clearly how much of a risk shopping online for a prom dress can be.

If you don’t want to waste 100+ dollars on a horrible dress (if it actually arrives), here are a few tips to consider for when shopping online for a prom dress:

1.) Look out for local or reputable U.S, U,K, Australian, or New Zealand sellers with an online website.

The vast majority of online complaints from online prom dress shoppers is about online Chinese websites.

The thing is, many of these Chinese websites use copied pictures from original designers and sell cheap replicas, luring in customers that think they’ll get a designer quality piece at a fraction of the original cost.

As the old-saying goes, if the price and picture looks too good to be true, it probably is!

Some are pretty good replicas but since many of these Chinese sellers and factories tend to use poor quality fabrics, the risk of getting a low-quality imitation of the original is quite high.

So next time you see a designer looking dress for $100 or less, be very careful before placing your order.

It would be better if you order from a reputable local or U.S, U.K seller with good feedback online from real users.

2.) Look for popular websites that have a wide range of clothing lines besides strictly prom dresses.

The norm is to go for an exclusive online prom dress seller, but looking in general clothing places online could actually be in your benefit–in fact, you could find a great quality prom dress for a good price if you search in these places, especially during discount seasons.

3.) Ask real reviewers their experience and kindly request real pics of the prom dress.

Prior shopping from a particular seller online, it is smart to check our real reviews from shoppers first. Be careful though–some of these reviews could be fake or sponsored.

A good way to tell if a review is real or not is if it uses real, everyday language and natural sentences that don’t appear to use excessive marketing terms. Vague, 5-star reviews are also not indicative whether the shopper had a genuine experience or not.

If it has a “verified purchase” mark with a real picture of the prom dress hanging or worn by the shopper, this can be a sign that it is a genuine experience.

4.) Buy or rent a used dress from an actual shopper who has posted pics.

If you don’t want to splurge on the full price of a designer prom dress but don’t want to risk buying something low-quality either, you can simply rent it or buy it used. There are plenty of these places online where prices for a used prom dress start from around $80.

5.) Don’t hesitate to ask the seller questions.

Asking questions prior choosing a certain seller will help you make a smarter decision, especially if you want your prom dress to be custom-made.

The actual response and speed of seller’s communication is a great indicator if they are a great fit to your needs or not so don’t hesitate to ask them questions about ordering your prom dress online such as the actual size measures, and their shipping or return methods.

6.) Place your order at least one month in advance, especially if you are shopping from a foreign website.

If you don’t want to waste your money on a dress that won’t arrive on time and look out for last minute resorts, make sure you place your order early.

Since most websites take anywhere from 1-3 days to process orders from ready-made dresses and up to three weeks to process and ship custom-made dresses, make sure you calculate that in total time and place your order preferably at least 4 weeks in advance.

Make sure you pay by a trusted method like Paypal in case the order doesn’t arrive in the time promised or at all so you can get back your money in case anything bad happens.

Next time you are searching for a prom dress online follow the above tips to minimize the chances of having a bad experience.
